Who doesn't love a good horror-themed bookstore haul?

There are few things that we like doing better than visiting a bookstore--and leaving with a good horror-themed haul is icing on the cake.

Sure, you can buy online and when you live so far from a bookstore, that's your only recourse. But, on those rare occasions when you do get to go into the store, you can indulge your desire to find some hidden monster gems.

Horror bookstore haul

Today's haul comes from Books-A-Million and a few things from Hot Topic, Walmart and Target.

Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein DVDs (Walmart) From the $5 bin. Can you believe that Walmart checked my ID when buying those movies? A movie from 1931! Maybe Walmart should clarify exactly how old one has to be do purchase Frankenstein.

Frankenstein shirt is from Hot Topic. We've picked up several of these cheaper online from Hot Topic, as well, but its great to see Universal Monsters in-store when it's not the Halloween season.

Frankenstein vase (BAM). Last year, we found the Dracula vase and mug in Barnes & Noble but only seen the Frankenstein version online. Seeing this vase, in person, however, looks as great as the Dracula version--one of ouf favorite pickups last year. On the reverse side there is a Karloff-style monster face, as well.

We want to make note of bookstores like Books-A-Million and Barnes & Noble when they have these pop-ups in the middle of the store featuring classic horror. Showcasing different merch like this vase, as well as the traditional books, is a real treat.

Pix! Herman Munster convention exclusive figure is from BAM. We didn't know these even existed, but the chance to pick up a Herman Munster limited edition in a bookstore couldn't be passed up. Hopefully, bookstores will get more of these--and that they don't go overboard like they did with Funko POPS!

Two magazines: UK's Scream and MovieMaker. The latter features the new movie "The Bride" and the former features a great Tommy Lee Wallace interview (Halloween III) and a feature on "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man." Magazines are so much better than reading something online--with photos and creative design that enhance the subject in a way you'll never get online. We need comic and sci-fi magazines like Wizard and Starlog back on the shelves again!

On the subject of Wolf Man, we found a Ben Cooper Wolf Man figure from NECA at Target. We've only ever found this in store once, so we were happy to grab a second one to unbox.

This She's Alive! pencil case featuring the Bride of Frankenstein is a licensed, quality case and perfect for some of the new art supplies we picked up.

Our final additions for this haul are a grail figure we've looked for since it came out--McFarlane Toys' Superboy variant, which we found at Books-A-Million. Another fun figure that we came upon is Obsidian from the Justice Society--this one from Walmart. Fun Fact: Obsidian appeared in the Arrowverse played by Milliennium and horror star Lance Henrikson!

Superboy and Obsidian action figures

*And yes, we did pick up a few BOOKS at the bookstore--but they weren't horror or sci-fi themed.
