For this Halloween Haunt 2025 haul post we look at spooky items from and inspired by our favorite kind of store: the Bookstore! Quite possibly our favorite kind of store to visit--even after all these years--is the bookstore during the Halloween season. Sure, they're not what they used to be with rack after rack of magazines and comic book spinners. Who can forget the smell of walking in to a Waldenbooks or the vibrance of Hastings? We've still got Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million in this part of the country so we did a Halloween haul to pick up a few things (and a few things that weren't Halloween, too).
We're starting off with a cheat--this Dracula wall hanging is from Ross Dress for Less. But it fits in with our bookstore merch theme, so we decided to show it here.

Again, these glow-in-the-dark books from Marshall's feature cool artwork on books featuring Dracula and Frankenstein. Not exactly a bookstore find, but a really cool find and they are spooky books!

Our first bookstore item: This neon cover of Frankenstein came from Barnes & Noble.

Which matches our previous Dracula version, also from B & N.

This Spooky Funko 13 day countdown calendar features mini Funkos, but seems to include Frankenstein, Dracula and the Bride. Could there be even more? It's from Books-a-Million.

Also from BAM is this non-Halloween or horror Masters of the Universe x Thundercats action figure of Battle Cat. The mightly green tiger was our favorite character when we watched the MOTU cartoon as a kid.

Books-a-Million had a lot of horror-themed setups around the store including Universal Monsters merch. This Trick or Treat Studios Wolf Man puzzle looks great and was reasonably priced.

We finally picked up our last Universal Monsters x Care Bears plush, the Bride of Frankenstein. Also from BAM.

As noted earlier, we love the magazine section of a bookstore. The selection is pretty minimal, but there's always horror options. We picked up this History of Halloween magazine, the latest horror anthology comic magazine Vampiress Carmilla, a Bride of Frankenstein notebook and a Bride bookmark.

We're doing a separate post to show all the spooky mugs we picked up this year, but this one is special as it comes from Barnes & Noble. It features Dracula's castle and a silhouette of the count himself on the reverse side. This cool mug will become our go-to Saturday morning coffee driver!

And finally, from Barnes & Noble, is the novel that inspired one of our favorite movies, Gods and Monsters. Loosely based on James Whales final days, it tells the fictional story of the Frankenstein director's fascination with his gardner while fighting the effects of a stroke and vivid memories of days past.

Wait, there's more! These eBay pickups were Halloween-themed books so we wanted to include them, as well. It's three different takes on "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"
A classic book from the 60s, a newer "making of" book and an activity book where you find hidden items amongst the various settings of the film. These were all great finds and didn't leave us saying "I got a rock."
