Saturday Morning Cartoons from Another Earth: Halloween-The Animated Series with Slasher Design!

In this special Cereal Creatures series, we imagine a Saturday Morning Cartoon Show from Another Earth and this time we've teamed up with Slasher Design for Halloween: The Animated Series!

Have you ever wondered why a TV or movie never had a companion cartoon series? Sure, there were countless examples of ones that did, often bringing in fans who weren't the right audience for the movie. In our new series, we've conjured up artwork and show guides for these animated series that never made it to Saturday morning--at least on our Earth. On some other world out there, maybe they did--and maybe they would look something like this!

Halloween: The Animated Series (1980) In this wacky Scooby Doo-inspired take on John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece, Halloween, we get the misadventures of teens Laurie, Lynda, and Ben, joined by their mentor Loomis and their friendly ghost Bob, as they track down the villain and escaped criminal that's all over the news. It's the fall semester at Haddonfield High and as Halloween approaches, these super slueths are about to meet their ultimate challenge--a monster named Michael Myers!

Episodes include:

"The Haunting in Haddonfield" When Laurie overhears her parents discussing an escaped prisoner named Michael Myers who used to live in Haddonfield, she suspects the newly-arrived psychology teacher, Professor Loomis, isn't a coincidence. Then, when strange lights are reported at the old Myers house, Laurie, Lynda and Ben go to investigate--but what mystery will they uncover? Is the Myers house really haunted?

"The Curious Case of Charlie Bowles" When the tombstones of the legendary Bowles family pull a disappearing act, Ben is convinced that the ghost of the old patriarch, Charlie Bowles, is back for some spooky shenanigans in the cemetery. Meanwhile, Laurie is betting her popcorn money on Michael Myers being the culprit. But hold on to your ghost hats, because Bob, the spectral student from Haddonfield, suspects there's something even fishier going on—and his top suspect is none other than Angus Taylor, the graveyard's own caretaker!

"The Monsters are Due on Lampkin Lane" He's here! Michael Myers has been spotted at his old house on Lampkin Lane and Sheriff Brackett has sealed off the entire neighborhood. Laurie and her friends split up to help, but discover there might be something more shocking that Michael Myers in their town tonight--real-life aliens!

"A Boogeyman Borrows a Broom" A bizarre flying object zooming around the skies of Haddonfield has everyone buzzing, especially since it seems connected to a witch statue dug up during a construction project. Laurie suspects this might be linked to an ancient Halloween myth called Thorn, which also has a handle on Michael Myers. Meanwhile, Lynda and Ghost Bob join forces to hunt down a real witch named Hazel Blankenship—who, funnily enough, used to babysit little Michael Myers. But the big question is, who's gonna reach her first?

"A Trick or Treat of Terror" Three men wearing Halloween masks of a witch, a jack o'lantern and a skull rob the Haddonfield bank and hide from Sheriff Brackett in the old Myers house. But guess what, this house ain't empty! When the masked crooks are "disappeared" one-by-one by Michael Myers, they each return as ghostly apparitions showing Michael memories of his family! Can the greatest monster Michael Myers survive against the happy memories created by the mysterious Silver Shamrock masks? And is Michael's only hope his old doctor Loomis?

"Date Night of the Scarecrow" When Laurie and Ben finally go on their first official date, it gets hilariously hijacked by two escaped criminals who decide to spice things up by dressing as the Tramer family's scarecrows to give Haddonfield citizens a fright—and maybe lighten their wallets a bit. But wait, there are three scarecrows strutting around town—so who's the third wheel in this straw-filled saga?

"When Halloween Seemed Like Forever" Halloween is here and a news reporter has shaken up the town with a new expose on the escaped prisoner Michael Myers. Professor Loomis and school nurse Marion stumble upon the word "Samhain" graffiti-ed on a wall, prompting them and Sheriff Brackett to hatch a colossal plan to nab Michael at his old haunt. Meanwhile, Laurie is raking in the cash babysitting neighborhood rugrats Tommy and Lindsey instead of partying with Ben, while Lynda and Ghost Bob planning their own night of mischief stumble upon a crashed Smith's Grove Asylum station wagon--and someone isn't who they claim to be! In a shocking twist--is it possible Michael Myers never actually came home after all? Was this one massive trick--with no treat?

Could Halloween have actually worked as a Saturday Morning Cartoon show? In the late 70s or early 80s, that answer would've been "no." But in making up these fake episodes, we're wondering if that may not be the whole story. It definitely could've been adapted in the 90s with a more serious tone in animation and storytelling.

The artwork presented here was developed by Slasher Design's Justin Osbourn for use as a gag on Fright-Rags' Halloween action figure packaging. Unfortunately, it wasn't approved, but made good fodder for our blog series!

Would you have watched an animated Halloween series on Saturday Morning? No lie--it's nearly 50 years later and we still would!
