Monster Merch: New Invisible Man comic, Universal Monster ReAction Blind Box figures coming

More monster merch is incoming with the announcement of a new Image Comic featuring The Invisible Man and Walmart-exclusive ReAction blind box figures showcasing your favorite Universal Monsters.

Continuing the successful line of Universal Monsters mini-series, Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment have announced that "Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man" will be hitting comic shops in August. Written by "Dracula" writer James Tynion IV with art by DANI, the new tale will unravel the origins of Jack Griffin as the titular Invisible Man. The story is said to include nods to the first Universal Pictures "Invisible Man" film directed by James Whale. If past is prologue, the story will intermix with the events of the movie or otherwise impact the story. The movie didn’t show how Griffin arrived at the invisibility serum, so that could be fertile territory to explore. Each issue will feature multiple cover options with a release date of Wednesday, Aug. 27, for $4.99. Print and digital versions will be available.

Super 7 is bringing horror legends into the 3.75-inch ReAction figure realm with a blind box offering that will be exclusive to Walmart. The characters, likely reusing existing sculpts, are of the silver screen variety, also known as black and white. Included monsters are the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Frankenstein monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Mummy, and the Wolf Man. Each comes in a decorative box and should sell for around $20.

As we’ve shared before, we don’t care for these blind box figures as they tend to be a money grab. We’d prefer they be released as regular figures with new cardback art or as a five-pack. The lineup is solid, but I’d ditch the Mummy for Dracula, the Invisible Man, or even the Metaluna Mutant. The exact timeframe for the figures to hit is not clear, but some have already been spotted in Walmarts.
