Celebrate Star Trek Day with this original Gold Key comics-inspired cover artwork featuring Star Trek: Voyager.
Today is Star Trek Day, Sept. 8 which celebrates the premiere of the original Star Trek series on this day in 1966. Fifty-nine years ago, Kirk, Spock and Dr. McCoy set out to deliver salt pellets and ran into a salt vampire in "The Man Trap."
Our new artwork to celebrate Trek recognizes the Trek sequel that debuted 30 years ago this year--Star Trek:Voyager. While there have been a few Voyager comics (including our favorite by Paramount comics around 1996) and the most recent Star Trek: Voyager Homecoming now available from IDW, there was never one of those classic covers inspired by the Gold Key era that saw original Star Trek comics during the shows run--until now! For this years Trek Day art we present a Gold Key-inspired Star Trek: Voyager cover.
I had to include one of my favorite Voyager villains, the Vidiians, who, due to the plague-like Phage, have to keep replacing their organs to survive. The Voyager and her crew ran into the Vidiians several time during the early years and this cover is a nod to a potential encounter.
