Universal Monsters X Monster High collab, plus Little People!

A quick look at our latest pickups: the Walmart Monster High x Universal Monsters crossover dolls and the Mattel Little People also featuring the Universal Monsters.

We really aren't familiar with Monster High, the doll series which debuted in 2010 and went on to feature in webisodes, movies, comics, and other media. We are extremely aware of the Universal Monsters, however, and when these two properties announced a collab, we had to investigate. We picked up these two -- Frankenstein and Dracula crossovers -- as part of a Walmart exclusive, at least for a couple weeks before they are expected to hit other retailers. There is also a Mummy version, but it appeared to be sold out at our Walmart. The nod to the Universal Monsters is evident in the box design and tweaks to the doll designs, but it's more of an homage to the classics than any kind of merging of either property into each other's universe. These types of Universal Monsters crossovers are great ways to keep the monsters in the hearts and minds of kids, but also make great collector's items for the classic monster collectors, too.

Our second Universal Monsters pick-up for this haul was the Little People collector series featuring Frankenstein, the Bride, Dracula, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon in the stylized figures the Mattel Little People line is known for. Some of our other collections in this line include Star Trek, The Golden Girls, and Saved By the Bell. The details and nods to the classic movie characters are clear, and the box art just adds to the presentation. And it just occurs to us that both the Monster High X Universal Monsters and the Little People are both Mattel lines. Hey, Mattel, how about some actual Universal Monsters figures? I don't think the actual Universal Monsters have made an appearance in the toy aisle since the days of Monster Force from Playmates. I think it's time for these great characters to make their toy aisle return with figures that are both kid-friendly and hot collector's items.
